The Road: 11/23/11: Vibrams or Sneakers? Now I Know!

Not much to report today. It’s a busy week and I’ve failed to bring you relevant material this morning.

I had a pretty major FAIL moment in my marathon training last night. I switched back to regular sneakers to see how they felt. Not good. I know now that I’ll be wearing my vibrams for the half marathon. They provide less joint pain with the barefoot feeling. They’re also so close to my skin that there’s no sliding or rubbing inside. I’m quicker in those shoes.

Six months ago, if you’d have told me I’d be doing a half marathon in these funky toe shoes I’d have slapped some sense into you. As it turns out, you would have been right.

Now I know. And knowing is half the battle.

    Just as a forewarning on running a half in Vibrams–if it rains then you will get blisters.
    I just did a half in them and have blisters from the wet rains, so it definitely started aching around mile 8 or so. BUT it is completely doable if you train in ’em, which you are! Good luck!
